The loch boasts the largest fresh water beach in the country and, on its southern shore, the major location of the series, the splendid Victorian pile of Ardverikie. Queen Victoria spent her first long highland holiday here in1847 but (allegedly) was driven to distraction by the midges. I know the feeling! The house is privately owned - please respect the privacy of its occupants - but a fine view can be had across the loch from the lay-by on the main road. |
